My Favorite Smoothie Recipe

By | Nutrition & Recipes, Shakeology | No Comments

I drink a smoothie nearly every day. It’s become a staple in my diet. A smoothie is like having dessert any time of day. I am always looking for ways to pack nutrient dense foods into my body. And A LOT of them. I can pack a lot of good calories into a delicious smoothie! It’s easy to take on the go, it’s simple to make, and it’s freaking DELICIOUS.

I do not know many healthy active people who DON’T drink some sort of smoothie or protein supplement powder. When you’re active your body requires more fuel to power through workouts and your day! In other words, you’ve gotta eat a lot of food. When you’re eating nutrient dense food it can become a challenge to get ENOUGH. I do love to eat but I do not want to eat all day every day. Girl got stuff to do!

Try this smoothie recipe if you need some goodness in your life.

I use Shakeology as a supplement in my smoothies. You can use whichever protein powder or meal replacement that you prefer in yours. Experiment with this recipe and make it your own! Before you ask which flavor of Shakeology I use… I use ALL of them! And I use this same recipe every time regardless of vanilla powder or chocolate or whatever. I recommend a high powered blender as well. I’ve been through a few over the years and live by my Vitamix. It’s well worth the price. I’ve used mine daily for YEARS! A good blender makes all the difference in smoothie land.

  • 4. Try all-natural chocolate for the first time. Ever wonder what cacao tastes like right out of the pod from the cacao tree? This shake is the way nature intended chocolate to taste. It’s rich, earthy chocolate taste is derived solely from whole-food ingredients with no additional flavoring agents.
  • 5. It’s FREE . . . lactose free and dairy free that is! If you’re lactose intolerant or have trouble digesting whey protein, then this is the shake for you. Most people have trouble digesting dairy, whey protein, or animal proteins and don’t even know it—until they try a plant-based protein meal and they just feel the difference!
  • 6. Fructose is a thing of the past. It takes all kinds of sugars to make the sweet world go round, but there are a lot of fructose haters out there. Chocolate Vegan is made with coconut flower nectar and luo han guo—two whole-food superfoods that are so naturally sweet, there’s no need to add fructose! We won’t get into the pros and cons of fructose, but suffice it to say that if you’re anti-fructose, then Chocolate Vegan or Tropical Strawberry are for you!
  • 7. Protein PACKED. One of the first questions vegans get is “Where do you get your protein from?” Well, plants have protein in them too! And so does vegan Shakeology. 16 grams in fact. Chocolate Vegan and Tropical Strawberry are crafted from an easy-to-assimilate blend of whole, plant-based proteins including sprouted brown rice, pea, sacha inchi, chia, flax, quinoa, amaranth, and spirulina. Not only do they offer 9 essential amino acids, but together they are a complete protein source with sufficiently high levels of lysine and methionine, two important amino acids that are often a limiting factor in plant-based diets.
  • 8. Kiss cravings goodbye. The new ingredient konjac root, in both Chocolate Vegan and Tropical Strawberry Shakeology, will help your cravings disappear! The fiber in this new wonder-food absorbs up to 200 times its weight in water, making you feel fuller, longer. No wonder places like Japan and China have been using it for centuries! Other perks include: help with regularity and healthy blood sugar and cholesterol levels.
  • 9. Take a bite out of the “Tree of Life.” Chocolate Vegan’s new ingredient moringa is called the “Tree of Life,” because it is one of nature’s most nutritious foods. This superfood contains 90 nutrients and 46 antioxidants along with ALL of the essential amino acids. Plus, according to some studies, moringa can help boost energy, lead to faster recovery, and balance out blood sugar levels.

New Video! Smoothie Recipe & No More Cereal

By | Nutrition & Recipes, Personal Vlog, Shakeology, Videos | No Comments

Let’s talk about CEREAL! I can eat an entire box in one sitting. No problem. Except it was a problem. We would have 5-8 boxes at any given time. The kids would have their cereal, I would have my cereal, and Darren would have his cereal. And let’s be honest…. none of it is good for you. It’s another processed, boxed up, packaged product with a fun bright commercial to boot. I had a nutritionist tell me once… if it has a commercial… don’t buy it. And ESPECIALLY don’t eat it.

This was a hard pill to swallow.  But think about it! She was RIGHT.

You’re voting with every dollar you spend in the grocery store!

My first step was cutting cereal out of my own diet. Then working on my husband. “I’d rather COOK you breakfast than you eat that cereal.” Not really that hard of a battle.

The kids…. that’s another story. I have three so I knew at least one would give me hell. “WHERE’S ALL THE CEREAL!?!?!?” Not to mention the look of other kids who come to sleep over. HA! Yeah, we’re THAT family. Kids don’t really hang out for dinner around here.

I stopped buying the really sugary stuff and transitioned to Cheerios. Then from Cheerios to nada.

It was the same slow transition from white bread to whole grains. From cows milk to almond milk. Baby steps!

So breakfast…. no creal!??! What do we eat? Eggs (so many ways!) fruit smoothies, Shakeology, pancakes…. how many more options does one really need? What’s the big deal with cereal? Maybe nothing… but you save hella money at the grocery store! The nutrient value… don’t get me started! I will say that if we go on vacation, camping, or some “special” occasion… I MIGHT buy a box. It’s rare. Take a look into your pantry and ask “What do I spend the MOST amount of money on?” (This is when I started making my own laundry soap too!) Then research and find alternatives!
