Happy 10th Birthday DJ Nevill

By | A Day in Nevill Land, Parenting & Family | No Comments

DJ is ten years old! Time flies. We keep birthdays pretty low key. We typically have dinner as a family and do a few gifts. DJ’s birthday fell on a Tuesday this year so we met up with daddy after work for some roller skating action! Afterward, we went to dinner for some yummy Tex-mex! Daddy thinks mommy influenced DJ’s decision for his birthday dinner but mommy totally did NOT. He just has good sense.

Fajitas anyone?

DJ is our youngest child and our only son. He’s a funny kid who loves adventure! He keeps my blood pressure in check with his love of motocross. I’m in awe of courage on the bike. Follow all of DJ’s motocross action here.  For more GoPro race footage click here.

I cannot believe it’s been ten years already.

Happy Birthday, Bub, we love you!

Do You Vote?

BAD officials are elected by GOOD citizens who don’t vote. -George Jean Nathan

Within the next 4 years, you may be getting a job, owning or renting your own house, getting married, starting a family, paying for health care, or building a business.
The policies you vote for today will have a huge influence on your life.
Do you really want to leave those decisions up to someone else? (Like Trump lovers?!)

You’re living life as an adult now. Despite conventional attitudes Much of your daily life involves very serious and important decisions. You manage your finances; you are taking charge of your continued education and career; you are doing your best, every day, to improve yourself and life for your family.

In essence, your vote matters most because you are able to cast it! I can’t imagine living in a time when women were not allowed to.

Go voice your opinions on issues, policies, candidates, and referendums. Stand up for what you believe in. Vote! ✌

Nevill Land Pumpkin Carving

By | Parenting & Family | No Comments

Brooke has been patiently waiting for pumpkin carving day! She made sure to remind me every day after school the number of days remaining until PUMPKIN CARVING DAY! No need to wait for older sister Bailey to get home from school “LET’S JUST DO THIS ALREADY MOM!!!”

She would have carved them weeks ago if she could! Scooping out the gunk and pumpkin guts sure does make for fun pics! You’ll have to follow me on Instagram to see the final products. Gotta wait for big sis to get home!

I decided to make homemade laundry soap after watching the movie Chemerical. My sister had already ventured out by making a recipe she found on Pinterest. Sounded easy enough! Here is the recipe I am currently working with!

  • 1/2 box of Borax
  • 1/2 box Super Washing Soda
  • 1/2 box Baking Soda
  • 1/2 box Borax
  • 1 container of Oxiclean
  • 1.5 bars of Fels Naptha Soap grated
  • 1 container (use scooper from Oxiclean) 1 scoop per load
  • Mix and store!

Kids: A Great Emotional Investment

By | All Posts, Parenting & Family | No Comments

It seems as if the world has attention deficit disorder. It’s no wonder with the constant barrage of information and media. If you’re anything like me, you struggle to balance the flow.

There are three things that help me stay grounded. Three beings I should say! They help me bring it all back home. When I read, see, or listen to the influences around me I can also come back to these three to help me process the priority of information or situation.

I think God graced me with three energetic kids for a good reason. (That’s not a joke… I truly believe it.) 🙂 I see myself in each one of them and am constantly reminded of where I came from and where I want to go. Parenting definitely takes time and talk about a great emotional investment! You’ve never seen so many emotions until you become a parent.

I try to block one on one time with each one of my kids as often as possible (once a week at LEAST) where we have special bonding time with no distractions.

What influences you to be a better parent?

“Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 18:3-4
